Face It® Partners join with hundreds to stand up for children at Children’s Advocacy Day at the Capitol on January 14, 2016

On Thursday, January 14, Face It® partners gathered at the Capitol for the 12th Annual Children’s Advocacy Day. They asked elected officials to prioritize the safety and protection of children during decisions made in the 2016 Kentucky General Assembly. Face It partners promoted several policy priorities to their legislators including the following:

  • Strengthening supports to prevent abuse and keep families safely together;
  • Strengthening supports for children in the care of relatives;
  • Allowing a conviction of repeated abuse based on a testimony of a pattern of abuse, known as a continuous course of conduct; and
  • Ensuring schools conduct a child abuse and neglect registry check, in addition to a background check for public school personnel.

The full Face It policy agenda can be found here: https://faceitabuse.org/get-involved/policy

In addition to meeting with legislators, Face It® partners presented the Community Leader of the Year award to Face It® Partner Gordon Brown, President and CEO of Home of the Innocents. Awards were also presented to the following legislators for their important role in championing legislation in 2015 to ensure educators receive important training on recognizing child abuse and neglect:

  • Senate President Robert Stivers
  • Senator Julie Raque Adams
  • Representative Linda Belcher
  • Representative Derrick Graham
  • Representative Joni Jenkins
  • Representative Rita Smart
  • Senator Whitney Westerfield

The Face It® movement was proud to join the nearly 1,000 attendees at Children’s Advocacy Day in an effort to promote child abuse prevention.
