Face It Friday: Happy National Read A Book Day!

Today is National Read A Book Day! When children read, it unlocks a lifetime full of benefits, such as building deeper bonds with family when reading together, expanded vocabulary, better comprehension, deeper understanding of the world around them and even helps them learn and understand themselves better.

Here are some ways to celebrate this day with your kids:

– Visit your local library and check out a book. Become a member and visit often. Find a book from your childhood and share it with your child.

– Read together! Take turns reading to your child and having them read to you.  Then you both can take turns sharing your favorite parts of the book.

– Make it fun! In the age of screens, sometimes it takes a little encouragement to get kids to want to read. Make it fun by changing your voice for different characters, and asking them what they think will happen next.

– Do a project together! After you read the book, draw pictures of what they imagine the characters to look like, or bake a characters favorite food, or even write an alternative ending!
