Mental Health Awareness Month

The month of May in Kentucky brings warmer weather, Derby excitement, and the end of another school year, but it is also Mental Health Awareness Month. This national month of recognition aims to educate and provide resources for individuals, families, and children about the importance of taking care of their mental health needs. This year’s theme – “You Are Not Alone”– emphasizes the importance of connecting with others in a safe way and taking care of your needs by reaching out and asking for help when you need it.

For kids in Kentucky, the last year has been especially challenging with many changes to their routines at home and school, and their social lives. Mental Health Awareness Month is a perfect time to check in with your kids and loved ones and provide support to help with the many changes occurring. May also brings an opportunity for professionals, parents, and youth to come together to discuss the behavioral health system for youth in Louisville and work together to encourage healthier and more resilient kids.

Coming up on May 11th, in partnership with the Jewish Heritage Fund for ExcellenceKentucky Youth Advocates will host a virtual summit to bring together professionals from various sectors, parents, and youth and present new qualitative research assessing the behavioral health landscape for youth in Louisville. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in a collaborative conversation about the barriers youth face when trying to access mental health care, as well as develop tangible solutions to improve access to preventative support and services. Also, this event will offer attendees a chance to network with other professionals and parents interested in this topic at a virtual networking event on May 12th.

Register for Closing the Gaps in Behavioral Health Care for Kids Virtual Summit on May 11th from 9:30am-12:00pm and the Virtual Coffee Hour Networking Event on May 12th from 9-10am.
