SUMMARY:Face It Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma Prevention Trainings
DESCRIPTION:Pediatric abusive head trauma (AHT)\, or shaken baby syndrome\, is a severe form of child abuse that most often involves infants. In these Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma Prevention trainings\, participants will learn the early signs of maltreatment and the various injuries and conditions that may result from vigorous shaking\, slamming\, or impacting the head of an infant or young child. \nThey will also be provided tools for dealing with a crying infant and ways to share information with parents to prevent abuse from occurring. Training objectives are to review the statistics of abusive head trauma; to define and describe abusive head trauma and its associated injuries; to discuss risk factors and prevention\, and to understand the outcomes for victims. \nKentucky’s child abuse pediatricians will present the trainings — Dr. Melissa Currie in Louisville and Dr. Christina Howard in Lexington. FREE Continuing Education credits are secured or pending for social workers\, family resource center coordinators\, early childhood educators\, nurses\, emergency medical service providers\, dentists\, and dental hygienists. \nRegister for the training in Louisville at 9:30AM on October 4th HERE. CEUs will be available for Social Work\, FRYSC coordinators\, EMS providers\, Dentistry\, and Dental Hygienists. \nRegister for the training in Lexington at 1:00PM on October 4th HERE. CEUs will be available for Social Work\, FRYSC coordinators\, EMS providers\, Early Childhood Education\, Dentistry\, and Dental Hygienists. \nTo raise awareness and release a new resource on this issue\, there will be a press conference to kick-off each event followed by the 2-hour training.
