Dr Pierce collaborates with a multi-disciplinary lab with emphasis on injury biomechanics. This lab combines the expertise of medicine and engineering and utilizes both a clinical and an experimental approach. Dr. Pierce’s research focus is the development of injury plausibility models\, including clinical decision rules\, for differentiating abusive and accidental trauma in the young child that combines medical\, social\, biologic\, and engineering knowledge. Her interest is also in epigenetics\, psychosocial risk factors\, factors\, ecologic factors\, and how child maltreatment confers health problems later in life. This collaborative work results in translational research that is guided by case-based studies with clinical\, social\, and basic science research\, experiments\, and modeling directly linked to pertinent clinic issues. \nThis continuing education event is supported by the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center as bona fide agent for the Kentucky Department for Public Health through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of cooperative agreement 5NU17CE010064 totaling $1\,000\,000 with 0% financed with nongovernmental sources. DESCRIPTION:Join Seven Counties on May 10th from 11:30am-2:00pm EST for their annual Kids Expo. \nKids Expo 2025 is a full day of fun and educational activities for school age children and their families. The event is free and includes a light lunch\, produce give-away and many other free activities intended to enhance knowledge of parenting and child development and increase supports within the community. \nParents with children ages 0-4 will be directed to the library to participate in a Prepping for K activity. Each family will be given 8 minutes of one-on-one time with a teacher. The teacher will engage the child and parent in a gross motor skill activity that is geared to the specific age of the child. The family will also be given an age-appropriate book to take home. The parent will be encouraged to continue working on the gross motor skill introduced as a way of enhancing child development. Interpreters will be available to assist families with language barriers. The Early Childhood Section of Kids Expo will also have an area to provide ASQSEII and AS developmental screening tools. Parents can request assistance with tools or be given an ASQSEII screener on-site staff certified in ASQ administration. The ASQ is a developmental screening tool used to identify developmental delays in children from birth to 6. The ASQ:SE-2 is a tool designed to screen for social-emotional delays and identify potential concerns in children 0-60 months. Parents will receive assistance in completing the ASQ:SEII. This Conference benefits professionals\, parents and others interested in increasing their knowledge about sexual assault and/or interpersonal violence and emotional and/or behavioral disorders found in children\, adolescents and young adults. \nThere is no registration fee to attend the conference and there is no charge for continuing education credits.\nLunch will be provided.\nDoor prizes will be available.\nPlease notify Heather Greene (Heather.Greene@mtcomp.org) or Renee Conn (Renee.Conn@mtcomp.org) if you find you cannot attend after registration so that others can be registered after maximum capacity is reached. \nSeating is limited to 300. Registration cut-off will be at maximum capacity or no later than March 26\, 2025. \nWorkshops include: Trauma-Informed Care: Understanding Impact\, Building Resilience; The Brain-Body-Behavior Connection: An Interpersonal Neurobiological Perspective; and Human Trafficking in an Opioid Crisis. \nCEU credits are approved by the Kentucky Board of Social Work and for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for 90 minutes.
