Plus\, the opportunity to learn about Home of the Innocents and our efforts to combat child abuse in our community. \n\nThe mural will be painted by Often Seen Rarely Spoken\, a local mural painting company\, on the side of Butchertown Market at 1201 Story Avenue.\n\n\n \n\n\nGuests are invited to paint a smaller version that will be installed on the Home’s campus as a gift to the children after the event. DESCRIPTION:Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the River Region pairs trained volunteers with abused or neglected children to advocate for their needs. Currently\, more than 100 children in our community are waiting for a CASA to be their voice in court. \nROLE OF A CASA VOLUNTEER: \n\n\nVolunteers get to know the child by meeting with them at least once a week. \n\n\nVolunteers identify the child’s needs by gathering information from teachers\, parents\, service providers and other persons of support. \n\n\nVolunteers report their observations and recommendations to the Judge in every court hearing involving the child. \n\n\nVolunteers are the one\, consistent adult present in the life of the child throughout their journey in family court. \n\n\nVolunteers ensure children are in a safe home\, receive proper medical care and have opportunities to be successful in school. \n\n\nINFORMATION SESSIONS \nTo learn more\, please join us for a CASA 101 information session. During the one-hour session\, you will hear about the children our volunteers serve\, the application process\, the training and case support provided to each volunteer. Drinking alcohol and other substance use during this critical developmental stage can lead to various issues including disrupted brain growth\, learning difficulties\, and substance abuse. Attend this seminar to learn more about how substance use affects the adolescent brain and what to do if someone you know is struggling. \nHenry Fuqua has been practicing in the field of substance use for over 20 years.
