Youth-Serving Agencies: How are You Acting as the Face that Ends Child Abuse?

The Face It® Movement, created by Kosair Charities, knows that child abuse is a community-wide issue and ending it will take community-wide support. Face It has been working with several community sectors since its launch in April 2013. Each sector – educators, medical professionals, youth, child care providers, and youth-serving agencies – is working to prevent, address, and end child abuse in ways that are appropriate for the sector. Educators and schools are receiving and providing child abuse prevention training; medical professionals are learning how to recognize and identify signs of child abuse; child care providers are developing a one-stop-shop where child care centers and staff can find tools and resources to prevent and address child abuse; youth are advocating for policy changes that will help prevent further cases of child abuse.

That leaves us with youth-serving agencies. This sector of the Face It® Movement is made up of all those groups that work directly with children and youth including community centers, faith congregations, and sports leagues. When you think about it, when kids aren’t in school or at home, these are the places they neighborhood spend much of their time. And, the adults at these youth-serving agencies need to be prepared to prevent, address, and end child abuse.

The Face It Youth-Serving Agencies work team plans to end child abuse through providing training and education to all agencies or organizations that work directly with kids in our community. But first, the team needs your input. All youth-serving agencies in Louisville are invited to complete this survey to help identify the type of child abuse prevention trainings and resources that are already available and what resources are still needed.

Please click here to complete the survey by Friday, September 12, 2014. And visit www.faceitabuse.org to learn more about the Face It® Movement.
