13 May CARE for Yourself and Your Child with Special Needs
Being a parent or caregiver is arguably the most rewarding and fun job we will ever have – but also a very challenging, selfless, and exhausting one. This is even more true when your child has special needs. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Kosair Charities Face It Movement wants to remind you that in order to be the best parent you can be, it’s important to take CARE of yourself first:
C – Community. You are not alone! Get involved with others walking a similar path.
A – Away. Take breaks often. Physical and mental breaks allow you to rest and recharge.
R – Refresh. Take a moment to regroup when you are frustrated, or to prevent frustration.
E – Enjoy. Find joy in the present.
Face It has released its newest resource for parents and caregivers of kids with special needs to encourage them to be sure to also care for themselves as they care for their children. Face It’s CARE brochure highlights important self-care tips for parents and caregivers, as well as the warning signs of physical and sexual abuse and how to report suspicions of abuse.
These days, it is as important as ever for parents and caregivers to practice self-care so they can better handle to stressors and frustrations that life – and especially parenting – throws their way. Check out Face It’s CARE brochure here and pre-order free copies here.
