04 Nov 2022 TEN-4 Positive Parenting Events Recap
Leading up to TEN-4 week, a week to bring awareness to the TEN-4 Bruising Rule and emphasize the importance of adults knowing the signs and symptoms of child abuse and how to report it, The Kosair Charities® Face It® Movement partnered with the KY HANDS Program and Bounce Coalition trainer Jo Cruz to host ten positive parenting events in the community with Critically Loved, Family Nurturing Center, Georgia Chaffee TAPP School,GreenHouse17, La Casita, Neighborhood House, Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative, Play Cousins Collective, Seven Counties, and The Nest.
Each event provided opportunities for parents and caregivers to connect with each other and learn interactive ways to connect with their children. Families were supported by strengthening knowledge around a child’s ages and stages, social emotional competence, building parental resiliency, and providing concrete supports. Activities provided social connections and included a variety of topics such as learning conscious discipline techniques, how to identify emotions and express them in a healthy manner, creating a safe space, developing a support system, self-care, and confidence building.
Since TEN-4 Week focused on recognizing and reporting abuse, we wanted to spend some time moving upstream to primary prevention as well. One of the most important ways to prevent child abuse is to provide support to parents and opportunities to connect with other parents. Parenting is a tough job, and it’s important to ensure parents have the support and resources necessary to keep them and their kids safe.
