FEAT of Louisville Works Toward an Inclusive Community

Families for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT) of Louisville is a local nonprofit that actively supports and funds autism programs for the entire family. Since 1999, FEAT of Louisville has been dedicated to easing the autism journey for individuals and families impacted by autism through on-going support, education, and programs. FEAT works diligently throughout the community by providing  parents and caregivers with learning opportunities, family-friendly events, and fundraising efforts. FEAT was instrumental in passing House Bill 159 in 2010 that enabled insurance to pay for needed services. FEAT continues to spread awareness through the Kentucky Autism Awareness license plate which proceeds allow FEAT to fund the Endeavor program at Carriage House.

One initiative of FEAT is the Autism Friendly Business Initiative; launched in 2017, which is a training program designed to build a community of businesses that are dedicated to the inclusion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in all aspects of life. ASD can impact the way a person communicates and interacts with others, families impacted often report feeling alienated or unwelcome in public spaces. The program  teaches techniques to recognize signs of ASD and better communicate with individuals including businesses, employees, and community members.

FEAT hosts a variety of community events designed for the entire family. These events range from informative to fun in a welcoming and nurturing environment. FEAT’s annual events include the annual Run for Autism 5K/1 miler, educational workshops, parent coffee/lunches, and Create a Stir about Autism Gala.
