Playing It Safe – tips for safe sleepovers and time with friends

Are you considering sending your child off for sleepovers? Is your teenager hanging out at friends’ houses? Trusting people with our children is hard, even at school or on a sports team. Trusting other adults to care for your child during a sleepover or play date can be especially tough. Only you and your child can know when they are ready for a sleepover.

Whether they are school-aged or in high school, children should always feel empowered to know when something doesn’t feel right. Even if you’ve dropped your child off hours ago and you think everything is going well, you should still be prepared to get the call that they want to come home. It is important that kids feel validated when asking for help!

The Kosair For Kids ‘Playing It Safe‘ tool offers parents and caregivers important information and tips to consider for a safe and fun experience as they send their child or teen off for a sleepover or to hang out with friends. View the resource and check out these helpful tips below:

Educate and empower your child on safe body boundaries.
Be available in case your child or the other caregiver needs to contact you.
Communicate with caregivers about any medical needs and other important details.
Ask who else will be in the home, what the safety plan is for dangerous items, and online expectations.
