This three-hour event is open to the public and will include performances by local artists along with interactive stations that incorporate art, music, and movement.

The Art of Healing’s purpose is to raise awareness of child abuse and the long-term effects it leaves, to show support for child abuse survivors, and to highlight how creative expression can be helpful in the healing journey.

Registration: bit.ly/AOH2024

The Art of Healing is intentionally scheduled in April as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month is a time to recognize the role every person can play in preventing child maltreatment and supporting the survivors of child abuse in our communities. Abuse has impacted every community and those we love, and it can be difficult to find the right words or actions to express what one has gone through.

“Child abuse brings with it shame and silence, which spills over into adulthood. Talking about child abuse can be uncomfortable, but it is important to bring these conversations out into the open as it breaks silence and stigma. By having the courage to talk about uncomfortable things, we open the door to change and bring hope to those who have experienced childhood trauma,” said Debbie Abreu, representative of the Face It Movement with Kentucky Youth Advocates

Face It directly addresses the unacceptable incidences of child abuse and neglect in Kentucky with the promotion of best practices in child abuse prevention and intervention, engaging the community, and advocating for effective policies to improve the systems that keep kids safe. With our over 160 community partners across Kentucky, we host events, share resources, promote child safety tips and family engagement ideas, and more to prevent maltreatment and support families.

“At the Fund for the Arts, we know that art is not only good food and good medicine, but a fundamental expression of the human condition. Art teaches us how to process what has happened to us and how that it makes us feel and is therefore an invaluable tool in the work of healing,” said Andre Kimo Stone Guess, President and CEO of Fund for the Arts. “We’re proud to work alongside Face It in equipping young people with these tools in the hopes that they can lead healthier and happier creative lives.”

The Art Of Healing is one event to engage in child abuse prevention and address child abuse in the community during April. Find out more about ways you can participate in preventing child abuse, join other events, and order free resources at faceitabuse.org/capm/
