5 ways you can participate in TEN – 4 2024

This October, the Kosair For Kid Face It Movement is once again bringing awareness to the critically important TEN-4 Bruising Rule, the technique to recognize concerning bruising on young children, and emphasizing the importance of training adults on recognizing, reporting, and preventing child abuse October 2 – 4. This year we are offering both virtual and in-person training options! We invite you to join us!

Pediatric abusive head trauma (AHT), or shaken baby syndrome, is a severe form of child abuse that most often involves infants. In this training , participants will learn the early signs of maltreatment and the various injuries and conditions that may result from vigorous shaking, slamming, or impacting the head of an infant or young child. They will also be provided tools for dealing with a crying infant and ways to share information with parents to prevent abuse from occurring.

5 ways you can participate:

Attend one of the following FREE trainings (with CEUs!) happening between October 2-4 with Kentucky’s leading experts in child abuse recognition and prevention

Wednesday, October 2 at 10:00AM – 12:00PM with Dr. Kelsey Gregory, Child Abuse Pediatrician. This event is virtual via Zoom. REGISTER HERE.
Thursday, October 3 at 5:30 – 7:30PM with Carla Hay, RN, MSN, SANE, AFN-C. This event is virtual via Zoom. REGISTER HERE.
Friday, October 4 at 11:00AM – 1:00PM with Dr. Melissa Currie, Child Abuse Pediatrician. This in-person training will be in the Community Room at Kosair for Kids (982 Eastern Pkwy, Louisville, KY 40217). REGISTER HERE.

*CEUs are available for Social Workers, CHW (Community Health Workers), Emergency Medical Service providers, Nursing, Early Childhood Educators, FRYSC, Dentists, and Dental Hygienists.

Watch the TEN-4 Bruising Rule video to learn more and order the brochure to distribute at your pediatrician’s office, community center, or school resource center.

Utilize the social media toolkit with refreshed resources to spread awareness or secure a local proclamation in our community.

Support a parent or caregiver in your life so they stay connected and feel validated by sending a text or video chatting, dropping off an activity box for the family, or setting up time to virtually play or read a book with their child.

Make a gift to Kosair For Kids in honor of TEN-4 Day to support their work on child abuse prevention.

Keeping kids safe is an adult responsibility. Sharing information on recognizing child abuse and neglect equips adults with the knowledge and tools needed to understand the warning signs, how to report suspicious bruising, and ways to support families to prevent it from happening in the first place. All adults in Kentucky are mandated reporters of child abuse; reports can be made at www.reportitky.org or 1-877-KYSAFE1.
