Kosair for Kids, Elected Officials, and Community Partners in the Face It Movement Recognized October 4th as TEN-4 Day 2025

Hundreds train to prevent and recognize signs of child abuse and highlight importance of TEN-4 Day

LOUISVILLE, KY – On Saturday, October 4th, the Kosair for Kids® Face It® Movement once again brought awareness to the critically important TEN-4-FACESp Bruising Rule, the decision tool to recognize concerning bruising on babies and young children, and emphasizing the importance of training adults on recognizing, reporting, and preventing child abuse.

“Knowledge is how we are going to prevent abuse and protect and support kids in Kentucky who need us most. We must be committed to understanding the risks and ways to help prevent abuse and neglect if we are going to effectively support families. Kosair for Kids is on a mission to ensure that every child grows up healthy and joyful, and our work is not done until every child is safe and supported,” said Barry Dunn, president and CEO of Kosair for Kids.

In Kentucky, young children remain the most vulnerable victims of abuse or neglect, with 30% of total victims under the age of four, according to the latest national Child Maltreatment report. The TEN-4-FACESp Bruising Rule is an easy-to-remember tool that outlines high-risk bruising on young children, especially on babies four months or younger, that is concerning and should be considered as red flags for abuse. Check out the resource and watch a new informational video at www.faceitabuse.org/ten4rule/

“Equipping as many caring adults as possible with tools to recognize child abuse is an important lever for impacting Kentucky’s high rates of maltreatment. Just as important is knowing tangible and applicable ways to prevent it from happening in the first place. Child safety is an adult responsibility that starts in our homes and in our communities,” Dr. Kelsey Gregory, Child Abuse Pediatrician with the Pediatric Forensic Medicine Team at the University of Kentucky.

The Face It Movement and Kentucky’s child abuse pediatricians and experts at the University of Kentucky train community members in honor of TEN-4 Day each year around October 4th. Over 400 social workers, health and oral health professionals, educators, first responders, and other concerned adults attended trainings last week on the TEN-4-FACESp Bruising Rule and Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma, among other child abuse prevention and recognition techniques.

In addition to trainings, the Face It Movement is proud to partner with the following elected leaders who proclaimed Saturday, October 4th as TEN-4 Awareness Day 2025:

“Kentucky has made strides in child safety, but there is still work to be done. We are so grateful for Kosair for Kids, our community partners, and elected leaders for recognizing TEN-4 Day 2025. Each year these efforts continue to grow – promoting Face It’s goal of bringing awareness to the red flags of abuse in young children and understanding when parents may be struggling and need some extra support,” said Dr. Shannon Moody, Chief Policy & Strategy Officer of Kentucky Youth Advocates.

The Face It Movement and its nearly 170 community partners serving families across the Commonwealth are committed to ensuring parents and caregivers, along with others in the community, have the tools and knowledge needed to recognize child maltreatment and to support families so abuse can be prevented from ever happening.
